My attention has been called to the fact that I haven't updated this website in a long time. Sorry about that.
I do have a bit of news. New Blood, the first blood magic book, released in 2009, was a finalist in both the 2010 Golden Quill award, and the 2010 Bookseller's Best award. Didn't win, but it did final, which is a pretty big deal. Keeps my "record" going. What record? Every book I've had released has won or finaled in a contest. I figure my luck will eventually run out, but so far, it's holding.
Now, about the website. Everything on here is still good. It has my up-to-date booklist and all the excerpts for everything I've got out now. As it says there at the top, I do have a blog. I don't blog every day--my life isn't exciting enough for that--but I do blog once a week. Twice if I can manage it. And I have a twitter account. I'll be sure to put up information here about books and release dates, and excerpts. That sort of thing. This is where the "permanent stuff" lives. Everyday stuff--that's on the blog or twitter account. I will warn you though--right now, I mostly only twitter when I'm at the dayjob. I have a really stupid cell phone. It only makes phone calls. It doesn't even have a camera. And since the fella thinks I need a new computer, I probably won't be getting a smarter phone any time soon.
And if you haven't read Heart's Blood yet, get it. Read it. It's good.

The book is out. Heart's Blood has been released. It's in the bookstores. Order it if it's not there.

I've posted the excerpt for Heart's Blood here on the website. Click through and give it a read. It's a good book.
In other news, the economy has had its way with my book scheduling. The pre-orders for Heart's Blood haven't been as good as they could have been, so Heart's Magic has been moved off the schedule for 2010, to be set for release sometime in 2011.
But, if you enjoyed New Blood and want to read more, run out and buy a copy or two of Heart's Blood with your Christmas gift card when it comes out on Dec. 29. And if they haven't put the book out on the shelf yet, tell them to get busy! It's a good book. It needs to be on the shelves! If you can't find it in the romance section, look in the science fiction/fantasy section, or vice versa. I've found it both places.
But that's for later. For now, go read the excerpt, and write down the release date. :) (Or, you know, you could go pre-order it at Amazon, or Barnes & Noble, or Borders.)

I have finished the final book in my contract with Tor. It will be titled
Heart's Magic and it is the story of Harry and Elinor.
So: Heart's Blood, Jan. 2010, and Heart's Magic later. Now to come up with a proposal for a new book in
the blood magic universe.
I'll get an excerpt up in the next few weeks. I'll send it to my newsletter folks first, so if you want a sneak peak ahead of time, Sign Up For My Newsletter. Send me an
e-mail with "Subscribe" in the header, and I'll get you signed up.

I have the COVER and the back cover copy up for Heart's Blood on my Books page. (You can see a tiny version of the cover above...) And the release date is now set for December 29, 2009, making it a January 2010 release.
A month earlier than I expected. Y'all check it out.

I seem to be always apologizing here. Because I don't update the website often enough. But--I did have my release date down, and my excerpt for New Blood up, and you can find all of my books here on the website. However, I have made a Bibliography page, with just a listing of my books all in one place with ISBN numbers, pub dates, and the order of the series books. And you can print it.
The day-to-day stuff is up on my blog. All of my "adventures." So. If you're just stopping by, feel free to look around. Check out the blog to see what I've been doing. I don't wax philosophical often, and I usually post about once a week, so you don't have to work hard to keep up. When I get the cover art for the next book--which is now officially titled
Heart's Blood--I'll post it here, of course.
What else is new? I've read five (5) of those TBR challenge books--and what do you know? May is the 5th month, so I'm relatively on track. I just need to post reviews of them now.
In the mean time, check out the excerpt for New Blood, and then go read the book.

I had hoped to have my next book in the steampunk series finished
by now, but I'm still working away. I'm close to the end, but not quite
there yet. Meanwhile, it's time to get my excerpt from New Blood up for y'all to read. So click here to read it.
The release date is March 3, 2009. Not too far away.
So I'll leave y'all to read the excerpt, and I'll get back to work. K? Thx.
Okay, I've entered a book reading challenge, to read 12 books off my TBR stack in the next 11 months. My list of books is here, if you're interested. I'll post my reviews of the books there also, as I get them done. Yeah, that's not looking so good. I've read several books on this list, but reviews? Not so much. The Deadline got me.
If you want to keep up with the very latest info about Gail Dayton, and
the books I'm writing and what's going on, skip over to myblog. It's as much about my life as about the writing. Everyday sorts of things like my flowers or my
painting, or my family. When things are going well with the writing, I do
note it down, as well as the days when I want to beat my head against the desk.
You're not going to get stories about me chasing shoplifters down the mall.
I'm a writer. I spend my working days sitting in my office, writing stuff at my desk
(I'm one of those freakish throwbacks who writes first drafts in longhand.)
(Yes, I am insane.) (Rollerball pen on college-ruled looseleaf notebook
paper kept in colored manila folders, for those who simply have to know.
And I change from black ink to blue ink and back again every day, so I can tell when I
start and stop for the day.) and staring out the windows when the words
aren't coming. Stop by and say hello.
